Preparing an international brokerage account

ACCOUNT8 minEducational lesson

Understand the information commonly requested during onboarding and why tax residency matters.

Prepare before applying

International onboarding commonly requires identity, residential address, tax-residency and financial information. Exact requirements can change, so use the broker’s live application as the authority.

Tax forms are not optional detail

A non-U.S. investor may encounter U.S. tax documentation such as Form W-8BEN. Understand what the form establishes before signing it.

Use CIL

Treat the workspace stage as a checklist marker—not proof that an account has been approved.

Before marking this stage complete

Make sure you understand the concept and have checked any live information that applies to your own situation. Completion in CIL is a personal progress marker, not verification by CIL.
